About

Creativity has always been a huge part of Katie’s life. Ever since she was little, she’s loved making things sewing, painting, crafting, designing, experimenting and generally finding joy in anything creative.
Sewing became a lifelong passion, leading her to study costume design before building a successful 20-year career working in the creative industry.
In 2024, Katie and her husband made the move from Surrey back to the Somerset countryside where she grew up, looking for a slower pace of life, more connection to nature and more time for the things that really matter.
Around the same time, Katie stepped away from running her children’s clothing business and found herself being pulled back towards what she’s always loved most, discovering new crafts, creating by hand and sharing that creativity with others.
What started as a few relaxed craft workshops in the local village hall soon began to grow. People of all ages were drawn to the simple joy of making things together, learning new skills, chatting, laughing, slowing down and rediscovering their creativity in a welcoming and encouraging space. It was here that The Red Tent Collective was born.
Today, Katie creates playful, thoughtful workshops for both adults and children, inspired by traditional crafts, mindful making and the belief that creativity is for everyone, not just the “artistic” ones.
Whether it’s sewing, painting, crafting or simply trying something new, her workshops are all about enjoying the process, building confidence and reconnecting with the joy of making with your hands.
“For me, creativity has always been a way to slow down, feel grounded and express myself. The Red Tent Collective grew from a desire to share that feeling with others, to create welcoming spaces where both children and adults can make things, learn new skills, connect with others and simply enjoy being creative together. In a busy world, there’s something really special about sitting around a table, making something with your hands and remembering that creativity can be joyful, calming and wonderfully imperfect.”
Venues
Our workshops take place in a range of carefully chosen local venues, each with its own unique personality, cosy atmosphere and creative charm. From welcoming cafés and light-filled village halls to inspiring community spaces and city centre hubs, every location is chosen to help you feel relaxed, comfortable and ready to get creative.
At The Red Tent Collective workshops are about more than simply learning a new skill, they’re about enjoying the whole experience. Think friendly faces, creative conversations, cups of tea and coffee, delicious cake and cosy moments shared around the table while you make something wonderful with your hands. This is why each venue becomes part of the magic, somewhere you can slow down, settle in, have a laugh, learn something new and leave feeling inspired.
We love discovering spaces that feel warm, lighthearted and welcoming to everyone, so if you know of a wonderful venue you think would be perfect for one of our workshops, we’d absolutely love to hear from you.
