About

Rediscover your creativity. Reconnect with yourself. Reclaim your calm.

Creativity has always been at the heart of Katie’s life. From childhood she was happiest making things with her hands, experimenting with a wide variety of materials and crafts. Sewing, however, was the craft that truly captured her imagination. What began as a creative challenge gradually evolved into a skill she refined while studying to become a costume designer at university and eventually turned into a successful 20-year career.

In 2024, Katie and her husband made the bold decision to leave Surrey and move back to the Somerset countryside where she spent much of her childhood, seeking a greener landscape, a deeper connection with nature and a slower, more mindful way of life. Alongside this new chapter came a professional shift. After ten successful years running her home-grown children’s clothing business, Katie felt it was the right moment to step in a new direction.

Embracing the warmth of a smaller community and leaving behind the isolation that can come with working alone, Katie began hosting small creative workshops in her local village hall. What started as a handful of informal gatherings quickly grew in popularity, with attendees drawn to the joy of making, sharing and connecting. The enthusiasm and encouragement from these workshops sparked the idea for The Red Tent Collective.

“The concept for The Red Tent Collective brings together my personal need to create as a way of staying grounded, with my desire to build a community where women can connect on a deeper level. In a world where genuine connection can feel increasingly rare, I believe there is something powerful about women gathering together to share stories, exchange wisdom, celebrate the beauty of nature and create freely. When we do, we reconnect not only with each other, but with ourselves.”

Growing up as one of four sisters has also shaped Katie’s deep appreciation for sisterhood. It continues to inspire her belief in the importance of nurturing and celebrating female energy, creativity and community in today’s world.

The Story

The Red Tent is inspired by the ancient tradition of women gathering in a shared space to rest, create and support one another. The Red Tent Collective aims to celebrate the wisdom, creativity and strength that thrive when women come together.

"The Red Tent Collective is a space for sharing skills, creating and connection. I want to encourage and inspire women to gather and rediscover the joy of making, moving and being out in nature together. It's more than just a creative workshop, it's a movement of creativity, connection and care. A reminder that when women gather, something powerful and deeply healing happens."

At The Red Tent Collective you will find a nurturing community, open to new ideas, new faces and learning new skills in an atmosphere of warmth and encouragment. Through mindful, creative workshops that are rooted in nature and traditional crafts, we explore artful play, self-expression and connection.

Please get in touch if you have a skill to share or a craft you'd like to try or simply seeking sisterhood and connection.

We are proud to collaborate with a growing community of local makers, artisans, and space holders who each bring their own unique skills and energy into The Red Tent.

From skilled craftswomen and creative facilitators to holistic practitioners and wellbeing guides, our workshops are enriched by a diverse range of voices and practices.

Each collaboration is thoughtfully chosen, creating a tapestry of experiences that feel both inspiring and deeply nurturing.

Together, we offer more than individual workshops, we create a space where creativity, connection, and community can gently unfold.

Venues

Our gatherings take place in a variety of carefully chosen local venues, each offering its own unique charm and sense of calm but also ensuring gatherings are accessible to all.

From cosy home spaces and light-filled village halls to city centre hubs, every space is selected to support the feeling of warmth, connection, and ease that sits at the heart of The Red Tent Collective.

These spaces become part of the experience, and invite you to slow down, settle in, and feel gently held by your surroundings.
